About Matthew
A Leader from Newark
Matthew grew up in Newark and went to school at Bunker Elementary, Newark Junior High School, and Newark Memorial High School. After graduating from UC Davis, Matthew returned home and became actively involved with non-profit organizations throughout Newark, including the Newark Optimist Club, the Newark Symphonic Winds, Newark Days, and the Washington Township Museum of Local History.
Matthew was first elected to the Newark City Council in 2022. During his time on the City Council, Newark has expanded library hours, built new park amenities, created more opportunities for Newark residents to participate in decision-making processes, and strengthened the city’s financial position.
A Leader for Newark’s Future
Over the next four years, Matthew will continue to work towards a brighter future for Newark by:
Ensuring Newark will always feel like home by guding our City's development so we can build a community that is closer-knit and more affordable for every family.
Building new planned amenities for our community, including two new fire stations, more public spaces, and new park amenities,
Supporting local businesses so they can create good jobs and provide new retail, dining, and recreational opportunities for Newark residents,
Emphasizing better collaboration with our School District and other government agencies,
Creating new opportunities for Newark residents to have their voices heard as we plan for the future.
