On the Issues

I have called Newark home for my entire life, and one of the most common refrains I have heard is that Newark has a “small-town feel.” I believe that our small-town feel is not about the total population of Newark or how far away people are living from their neighbors, but instead whether we know our neighbors, whether we feel connected to the broader Newark community, and whether all of us can have a say about the kind of Newark that we want to live in.

Newark is changing, but the Newark’s small-town feel should not. We can lean into our values of community and ensure that as our City changes, it changes in a way that is in line with what we value most.

I have separated my “On the Issues” page into several sections to best help you know how I think about specific issues before you cast your vote, but to me, all of these issues are about strengthening the Newark’s small-town feel. Your street, your neighborhood, and our city as a whole should be a place where you can truly be a part of your community, where you can feel safe, where you can spend your time in vibrant places, where you can be proud of where you live, and where you can thrive. Creating that place is the job of your City government and what I have spent the last four years advocating for on the City Council.

I love Newark. I love hearing stories about the community Newark was before I was born, I love the Newark that I grew up in, and I love the Newark we are building for the future. This is the passion and vision that has centered my thinking over the past four years, and if I am fortunate enough to be re-elected, is what I will advocate for on the City Council during the next four years.
